1990 Mazda 626
When I pressed on the brake pedal for the first time when leaving the seller's business, the pedal went 2/3rds to the floor and was soft. Even though the seller had had weeks to prepare this car for my 600 mile journey home (after I paid for it) he sent me off with only 1 of 4 wheel's brakes working!!! It was also 1 quart low on oil and the oil was black. Once I got the car back home I had my mechanic look at it. He said that someone tried to remove the rear wheel hubs, apparently to repair the inoperative brake wheel cylinders, and used a CHISEL in an attempt to remove the nut which allows the hub to be romoved for access to the wheel cylinders. In addition to the rear brakes being inoperative the front right brake was also inoperative. The caliper was not working right and to keep it from locking up when the brake pedal was pressed someone had purposely opened the bleeder valve to allow air into the brake line. My mechanic said that this was done so that the caliper would not engage the brake because in it's condition it would have locked-up and prevented the wheel from turning.
There was also some CONCRETE MORTOR used to fill in a ding near the fuel tank fill door and used to "repair" a hole in the catalytic converter.
I am uncertain as to whether the seller or a previous owner did these things but regardless, a person with only one year's driving experience would have known that something was wrong with the brakes on this car. Only by the grace of God did I make the 600 mile journey from Levittown PA to my home in Indiana without beinging killed!!!! Source: eBay Motors Reviews |
