bought my 2006 s2k a month ago and have already put over 2000 miles on it. wanted to get a car i would enjoy driving and this car has exceeded all expectations.
the performance of this car is simply amazing. i've always heard the phrase "like it's riding on rails" but didn't understand what it meant until i took a corner in my s2k. and that's its biggest strength: handling. it may not be the fastest straight-line car, but i have never felt so much confidence taking corners and highway interchanges. even at high speeds, it always feels like i'm the limiting factor, not the car. it also does have some get-up-and-go, but it's felt most in the high rpm's. when the vtec kicks in at 6k rpm, it feels like you just down shifted even though you're in the same gear. and hitting redline will keep you in the vtec range at every shift. this is one of the best feeling shifters ever. the exhaust note is just right: nice low rumble but not overly loud or annoying. if it ever starts feeling sluggish, i know there's always a ton of aftermarket performance parts. but as of now, i like it stock.
comfort is probably a subjective opinion, but i have no real issues here. when i was deciding on a car, i thought i would just eliminate the s2k by sitting in it and not fitting (i'm 6 foot tall), but there was plenty of headroom. and the car fits like a glove. at the ripe old age of 30, it is a bit of a chore at times contorting my body into the car in tight parking spaces (you sit pretty low), but once i'm in, the seats hug me like my mom did when i was a little kid with a boo-boo. i drove my car one day and then immediately drove my friend's lexus rx330, and the lexus actually felt a little uncomfortable: too cushy, too high and upright, not enough lateral support: like driving from a big lumpy couch. again, comfort can be subjective. getting used to lack of storage space, but i made sure my golf clubs fit before i bought it (it takes up the whole trunk). this car is definitely bumpier than most, but not too bone-jarring. as exhilarating as it can be, i've also found it to be very relaxing and therapeutic with the top down just cruising down the highway on a cool night. there's a lot of wind, road, tire, engine noise (from your car and others) when the top is down, but you can just turn up the 8 speaker stereo (or downshift to listen to your engine). top up is a little noisier than a regular car, but that's to be expected. big blind spots with the top up, no blind spots with the top down; just open sky all around. the motorized top has got to be one of the fastest in the market (about 10 seconds to go up AND down). there are plenty of little storage pockets/compartments to keep your stuff in. gauges are easily readable. redundant audio controls on the left and a/c controls on the right of the steering wheel keeps your hands on the wheel even when adjusting controls. the steering wheel has nice grip spots at the appropriate 10 and 2 o'clock positions. turning key before pushing start button is a bit redundant, but the s2k is what started the recent start button craze. hid headlights are very bright and reach far and wide.
reliability's not a factor yet since i've only had it for a month, and all materials/fit & finish are top notch. seems put together well, but hey, it's a honda right? not expecting too many problems here.
this is a great car at a great price. otherwise you could pay $10k-$30k more for a car with a better name and less performance.
