Overall I live in MA so AWD is great to have, if not, a necessity. I looked at the BMW M3 at the same time as well but it failed in the winter comparison (it would be garaged all winter). So, I bought this new and have been delighted with its performance and amenities (eg self-dimming mirrors!). It has been very reliable. I've put over 50k miles on it so it's been and gone through warranty. I got the free servicing so I have no idea about service costs but beware it takes a lot of synthetic oil every time. I've taken it to all of the major race tracks in the NE and had a blast charging round (Audi Club). You won't beat an M3 off the line but on a winding track you'll beat it in overall time. Fit and finish in the cabin is the best in industry.
Concerns/criticisms - if you want a flashy 'look at me' car then this is not it. If you have to carry adults in the back seat all the time then again this is not the car. If you have to cover long miles cross country on the highway then again this is not for you. The sports suspension is just too harsh for long hours in the saddle.
Updside - great fun to drive. High quality fabrication and finish make it a joy to own. The stealth side of its performance is an advantage. If you're going for one then don't buy the tiptronic unless you are a stop start driver in the town all of the time - it saps so much of the power and fun Source: eBay Motors Reviews |

I bought this car used on eBay. The car had some tasteful modifications: Stassis Tracksport suspension, DWE Dual Sport exhaust, DWE Drive Train Stabilizer, DP chip, and boost gauge. The car is unbelievably powerful with 307 hp and nearly 400 ft.lbs. of torque! It handles as if on rails, although likely too stiff and low for most, but I love it! Be aware of the tiptronic (automatic) transmission however. the torque converter is known for having wimpy seals, weak at best and just about guaranteed to fail in a chipped car. A new converter is $2-3000 installed, and if ignored can demolish the transmission. I don't want to know what an Audi 5spd auto would cost. I guess 23mpg highway is good for a car this powerful; not an economy car, but if you want to embarrass the guy in the Hemi Charger while bringing home the groceries, this is it! Put on a set of high end stud-less snow tires on and laugh at snow and ice! Source: eBay Motors Reviews |
2004 Audi S4: Simply amazing vehicle, better than M3,as in reviews Engineering excellence at its finest...that's how I'd say it best. Unlike the earlier platform B5 S4's which I've also owned, Audi got it right with the completely redesigned chassis on this vehicle.
The V8 engine is powerful and responsive, the exterior is a work of art, but subtle unlike it's rival the BMW M3. Though a tad slower in a straight line at the track, this generation of the S4 is overall a much better vehicle for everyday driving and really performs in the curves and wet, where the quattro and suspension really get to work. The interior, as always, is top-notch. Hats off to Audi for getting it right with this design! Source: eBay Motors Reviews |
